DVD's at Troy Night Out

Hi all, "Motion Portrait Film" is in a show called PERSONA, and the opening reception is at Troy Night Out tomorrow 5PM-9PM. The Arts Center of the Capital Region is where it's going down on River street and I'll be there handing out free copies of EVERY GOOD THING TO RUST my first feature film. So if you see me out and about, and want a free copy of the film without waiting hours for the download...hunt me down. :-)

Cheers!

digg it...link it...stumble upon it...

EGTTR now has a link button html code you can put into your social network sites and personal blogs. Designed by the talented Raeanne Wright, these link buttons will help us get the word out. We're also on stumble upon and digg it...so digg us. :-) I've become a bit of a stat junkie after seeing the relashionship of press/linking to site visits...very interesting. Saw LOL last night...the film by Joe Swanberg is a must see for those who like mumblecore and technology...or who hate technology and want to watch what it's doing to this generation. I still cannot get over the fact that when you give something away for free in this country...people take it less seriously. From now on...downloads 20 bucks a piece....just kidding.

Cheers
John

PS Just go to the main page www.everygoodthingtorust.com and look for the "link here" in the bottom navigation. It will give you a window that has code to copy...the button looks like this

Picking up speed

So things have been quite busy between emailing out the press release and getting last minute promotional material together for this Friday. On Friday the 26th I have a past film/project in a show at The Arts Center of the Capital Region. The reception will be part of the Troy Night Out event that happens every month. I'll be in and out of the gallery from 5-9 PM and then around town for a bit. Stop by and pick up a free DVD of the film, plus you can take a gander at what other things I do...besides making films...wait...it is a film...

I also had a great weekend. I did a phone interview for Chronogram Magazine. A local arts and cultural zine with great content....I'll be in the December issue so check it out! :-) I was also on Bedlam Farm Saturday night giving Jon Katz his weekly photo lesson. I however was not up early enough to get this shot with him...because according to him I am a slacker and lazy ass. Despite Jon's complaining, it's beautiful in upstate right now

Why are all the stats backwards?

So another week of "pounding the digital pavement" for the film. This DIY promoting is hard but fun. I feel like I'm breaking the rules a bit...and that's always a blast. I looked at the web stats and got discouraged...then I realized they go right to left?! Who does that. Then I got encouraged and saw we are at 100 downloads of the film...in various sizes. VERY EXCITING. It's interesting what happens when you give people things for free. I hope people are not having a hard time taking it seriously...it's free so that it's accessible...not because it's crap...I promise. :-) Going to Bedlam Farm and Hicks orchard this weekend. Going to start work on a new photo series and run an idea by Katz....putting him in my next film.(not really him, just a character that plays him.) It's a story with a depressing ending (shocker) but I hope it's uplifting and puts everyone through the gamut of emotions...why else make films. Work on the film is already in story stages and for the first time I'm thinking past what I know I can do safely...time to break some more rules. Very quietly though. ;-)

You'll just have to come and find out. Plus I'll be there and you can tell me how badass I made them look. :-)

PLUS if you want a great drive in the country this weekend You should come to art harvest...here is the link for Jon Katz's photo journal...he's usually going on and on about that. I'm sure it will be an amazing weekend in the foothills of VT.:-)

One last thing...Radiohead's album just came out today...you can go to the Radiohead website and name your price. A great idea guys, thanks for stealing it from me. :-) The album is amazing...go get it.

EGTTR Avaliable for Download!

Hey everyone, the film is finally available for download on the website. Normally you have to sign up for the newsletter to get to the download page, but here is the link anyway

http://www.everygoodthingtorust.com/download.asp

However it would rock if you signed up...show Raeanne some love for the great website. (www.everygoodthingtorust.com)

Let me know what you think, pass the film around, check the blog, and hopefully there will be some good response. I'm sending it off to festivals, but I have a feeling the best feedback will come from this process.

Apple TV download to come in a few days...it's the really nice quality download...however, it's 2.5GB small. ;-)

Almost there....stay on target!

So between shooting a wedding for a friend this weekend and tickets to see The National in Boston, I have yet to get the compressed files up for download. Not to mention the fact that 8 different versions took 40 hours to compress...even on a brand new MAC PRO. So never fear...the film will be here...Monday. :-) Rae and I will be working until it's done after work Monday and let you know immediately. Thanks for being patient.

Toonces and Friends

This is the tentative title to a new photo series I'm shooting next week. Ever since I got the cat she seems to be in touch with more of what's going on around her than us humans. Constantly curious, she roams all of the places we live with a certain sense that others have lived her before us. The series will be quick and shot with mostly available light. I will probably keep it as an ongoing series, shooting in every new place we go. Mostly it's an excuse to shoot some of my environment and to document the cat that is Toonces.

Cheers
John

PS Film is being finished and compressed....Oct 5th is still the date I'm shooting for.

Premiere a success

So this Saturday was the premiere of EGTTR and it went great. Everyone pulled together to prep the space behind Trampoline Design, and we had a packed house. Here are some of the images Jon Katz took while everyone was engrossed. (Sorry John I stole them from the blog, but I never got a chance to take any...and these are great.)

Here is the mention on Jon's blog

http://blog.bedlamfarm.com/index.cfm/2007/9/30/Every-Good-Thing-To-Rust

And Trampoline talks about it on their website in "The Buzz" section

They said it better than I could ever.

Movie will be out this weekend for download....and I'll finally have more time too add to this blog...I might even get better at writting a blog.

Cheers
john
